Hello — I'm Trey Barrineau, an editor and writer in the Washington, D.C., area. My work has appeared in AARP, USA TODAY and elsewhere, and it's been highlighted in The Atlantic, Slate, Yale Environment 360 and other publications. I specialize in substantive editing and copy editing, content creation and strategy, web production and site programming, and social media management. I’m currently an editor at AARP, where I work on content for AARP's Members Edition, a major digital initiative focused on health, lifestyle, home and family, retirement, and entertainment. I also manage and edit the Members Edition home page each day. Additionally, I serve as the point person for AARP's breaking-news obituary coverage. Before joining AARP, I was a research editor with the Institute for Justice (IJ), a public-interest law firm that frequently argues cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. I helped edit, produce, promote and distribute some of IJ’s social science and public policy research reports. These target a broad audience that includes journalists, legislators, judges, academics and the general public. Before that, I spent five years as the managing editor of NAIOP's Development magazine, a publication focused on commercial real estate. During my time there, Development won 23 global, national and regional awards for editorial excellence and was a finalist for Magazine of the Year in the American Society of Business Publication Editors' Azbee Awards of Excellence in 2021. Earlier, I was with Key Media & Research, where I served as the editor in chief of Door and Window Market (DWM) magazine for nearly four years. While there, DWM won six national and regional awards for B2B publishing, and Slate praised the magazine in a November 2016 article about trade publications. And from 2000 to 2014, I was a multiplatform editor at USA TODAY. In that role, I refined, shaped, and wrote a wide variety of print and digital content for the national daily newspaper and website. I also contributed headlines and copy editing to several specialty publications. Additionally, I created posts for USA TODAY's branded social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook. During my time there, I won several awards for outstanding headlines. Got a question? Feel free to reach out. And thanks for stopping by. This website uses marketing and tracking technologies.
